Global Warming Potential (GWP) is a measurement unit that indicates how different materials and processes impact global warming. The lower the GWP, the less a material contributes to climate change. For the construction industry, which accounts for a significant portion of the world’s CO₂ emissions, focusing on GWP is a necessary step toward more environmentally friendly solutions.

Our Responsibility at Randers Tegl
At Randers Tegl, we have a responsibility. We must and will do our part to reduce the GWP of our bricks and production processes to contribute to a better future—and we are already well on our way with RECLAY, EcoBlend, and Recycled Bricks.

How is GWP Calculated?
GWP is determined through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which evaluates all phases of a product’s life—from raw material extraction and production to transport, usage, and recycling. The process measures emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO₂, methane, and nitrous oxide, converting their impact into a CO₂-equivalent.

For bricks, this means analyzing everything from clay extraction to the energy used in our brickworks and how the bricks are handled when they are no longer in use.

Build for Generations
Our bricks are made to last for generations—build for generations. However, their production requires energy and raw materials. That is why we continuously refine and enhance our processes and products to lower the GWP of both our bricks and production.

Our Efforts to Reduce GWP

We are committed to:

- Using recycled materials to reduce the need for new raw materials.
- Optimizing transport and logistics to minimize emissions.
- Designing bricks that can be reused or recycled at the end of their lifespan.
- Initiatives to Lower GWP in Our Bricks

With our Low GWP brick series, we have already taken significant steps to reduce GWP in our products:

RECLAY series: We mix up to 30% crushed brick into the clay blend, reducing the need for new raw materials and energy consumption.

EcoBlend series: A combination of 50% reclaimed bricks and 50% of our most eco-friendly newly produced bricks, resulting in a low CO₂ footprint, low GWP, and promoting a circular economy.

Reclaimd Brick series: Entirely composed of 100% reused bricks from previous constructions, making it the series with the lowest GWPs.

Circular Thinking
A crucial part of our work with GWP is embracing a circular mindset. Instead of viewing bricks as single-use products, we consider them resources that can be reused. This approach not only reduces GWP but also decreases waste and environmental impact.

By choosing bricks with low GWP, you contribute to construction that considers both the climate and the future. Low GWP means that the bricks have a smaller environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle, from production to recycling. From researching alternative fuels to developing new product series, our goal is clear: To be a leader in environmentally friendly brick production.
